EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Michigan State men's basketball opened up the new season on Monday night with an 80-69 win over Colgate.

The visiting Raiders kept things close throughout the first half and when Brady Cummins hit a three at the halftime buzzer, Colgate headed into the locker room trailing just 37-34.

However, the Spartans played with much greater energy in the second half and kept Colgate at an arm's length down the stretch.

Jeremy Fears Jr. led the charge on both ends for MSU in the second half and finished with 14 points, 10 assists, five steals and five rebounds.

Midway through the half, Fears Jr. stole the ball and tossed a lob to Coen Carr on the other end that was slammed down through contact to bring the Breslin Center crowd to its feet.
