New Delhi: Former India captain Shantha Rangaswamy feels Harmanpreet Kaur should step down from captaincy and hand over the reins to Smriti Mandhana after leading the Indian women’s cricket team to their maiden ODI World Cup title . Harmanpreet-led India beat South Africa by 52 runs in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup final at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday to lift their maiden trophy.

After bringing an end to India’s long-standing ICC trophy drought in women’s cricket, Harmanpreet joined an elite list of captains to have won the ODI World Cup for the country. Rangaswamy, who was India’s first captain in women’s cricket, feels the time is right for Harmanpreet to step down from the leadership role and continue as a player for the team.
