New administrations were made official across central Alabama, Monday as winners of this year's municipal elections were sworn into office, marking historic changes in several cities.

In Anniston, Ciara Smith made history by becoming the first Black woman and the youngest person, at just 26, to serve as mayor of the city.

Homewood also witnessed a historic moment as Jennifer Andress became the first woman to serve as mayor in the city's 99-year history.

She is joined by four newly elected council members under Homewood's new council-manager form of government.
