DES MOINES, Iowa —
On Tuesday morning, polls will open across Iowa for local elections, where voters will select new city officials, school board members, and decide on key public measures such as bond referendums.
Election officials in Polk and Dallas counties say they’re expecting a stronger turnout this year compared to the last city and school election — fueled by the energy of local campaigns and ballot initiatives.
As early voting wraps up, Dallas County Auditor Todd Halbur says his team is preparing for a busy day at the polls.
“Getting the polls ready and getting our equipment there and everything,” Halbur said.
Dallas County — the fastest-growing county in the state — saw about 22% voter turnout in the 2023 city and school election, or just over 15,000 voters. Halbur expects
