In a bizarre turn of events for one gamekeeper who was digging for a ferret, Chedworth’s first fragment of a mosaic tesserae was uncovered in 1864, according to Pleiades.
Years of excavations under a number of hands mean this secluded Gloucester locale is now home to the UK’s grandest Roman villa which you can visit it for just £14 any day of the week.
