CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tuesday marks Election Day in Charlotte, and voters are heading to the polls to make their voices heard in key local races.
Polls opened at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, and will remain open until 7:30 p.m.
Charlotte residents are deciding on the mayoral race, four at-large City Council seats, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education, a transit tax referendum and several district council seats.
Among these contests, the District 3 and District 6 City Council races are drawing the most for the general election.
District 3 race
In district 3, which covers neighborhoods including Steele Creek and Nations Ford, Democrat Joi Mayo defeated incumbent Tiawana Brown in a primary upset. Mayo won with 49.48% of the vote, while Brown received 25.09%.
