Every Nov. 11, communities across America pause to give thanks to the millions who have served in the nation's armed forces.
Veterans Day is one of the more venerable holidays on the nation's calendar and that's certainly the case on the northshore, where several events are planned to honor veterans. In fact, there are events the weekend before the actual holiday, which will allow more people and more opportunity to thank those who risked everything to better ensure the freedoms afforded to all Americans today.
A sampling of the events includes:
Mandeville Veterans Day parade
When: Sat. Nov. 8, 11 a.m., concert at noon, jambalaya cook-off to follow.
Where: Starts at Mandeville boat launch on Jackson Avenue, and ends at Pat’s Rest Awhile, located at the other end of Lakeshore Drive.
