Longtime Slidell Noon Lions Club member Dan Ferrari visited a school for the visually impaired in East Africa earlier this year, donating $6,600 from the Lions back home, while Ferrari's friends also donated sound-emitting soccer balls and Braille typewriters, and from Ferrari's wife and her father, three BrailleDoodle learning tablets for use by younger students.
The Thika School for the Visually Impaired has more than 400 students, ages 4 to 19, taught and cared for by 21 teachers and 35 staff members. It has operated since 1946 and is managed by the Salvation Army Kenya East Territory.
“There is no doubt the needs of this school are many, and our funds will be put to good use to maximize the benefits to the students," said Ferrari, the second vice president and two-time past president
