LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Hundreds of cars packed the intersection of Hodges and Sallier Streets, all lining up for free food and water distributed by the Vessel Project of Louisiana.
Led by Roishetta Ozane, the event was organized in response to the ongoing government shutdown, which has left many families facing uncertainty about their SNAP benefits.
“Today, this is an emergency assistance operation we have going on in direct response to the government shutdown and the cut off of SNAP benefits,” Ozane said.
Ozane says this is just one of many giveaways, and she plans to keep helping as long as the community needs it.
