POTTSVILLE, Pa. — Tonight, Pottsville will see its fifth mayor in four years. Democrat Andy Wollyung is facing off against Republican Tom Smith. Wollyung is a member of Pottsville City Council. He is also Chef and Catering Manager at the Washington Hotel in Minersville. Smith is a retired financial advisor and President of the Schuylkill YMCA Board of Directors.

Wollyung or Smith will be the fifth mayor of Pottsville since 2021. Former Mayor Dave Clews passed away late last month. Clews was sworn in as Mayor in 2022. He stepped down last year due to health reasons.

Shortly after that, Mayor Mark Atkinson was sworn into office. Seven months later, he also stepped down because of health reasons. Pottsville's current mayor is William Messaros, who was appointed in May. He is not running f
