As the federal government shutdown drags on and SNAP benefits remain on hold, Thelmas Kitchen in Kansas City is seeing more families and children turning to their low-cost menu for relief.

Thelma's Kitchen is not a food kitchen or a food bank, but since they're focused on helping people stretch their money - and since more people are stretching - they too are preparing for bigger demand.

Located at 31st and Troost, the nonprofit caf has made all childrens lunches free - no questions asked - to help parents struggling to put food on the table.
