ARLINGTON, Va. — ICE officers arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala whose criminal history includes a conviction for breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony; charges for manufacture, sale or possession of a fictitious operator’s license; and larceny. Officers with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Washington, D.C. field office apprehended Edgar Bernabe Estrada, 45, Oct. 20 in Arlington.
“Edgar Bernabe Estrada illegally entered the United States and has been arrested several times by local law enforcement. Most recently, he broke into someone’s residence with the intention of committing a felony,” said ICE ERO Washington, D.C. Field Office Director Russ Hott. “ICE Washington, D.C. will continue our efforts to prioritize public safety of our communities by arresting and removing criminal alien offenders from our streets. We remain absolutely committed to our mission of enforcing U.S. immigration laws throughout Virginia and the District, even in jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with ICE.”
Estrada illegally entered the United States on an unknown date, at an unknown location without being inspected, admitted, or paroled by a U.S. immigration official.
Between April 2000 and July 2001, Estrada was arrested and charged with larceny; manufacturing, selling or possessing a fictitious operator’s license; and breaking and entering with the intention to commit a felony, a charge for which he was convicted and sentenced to serve more than two and a half years in prison.
Earlier this year, Arlington Couty board members voted to prohibit law enforcement cooperation with ICE even for cases involving transnational gang members and terrorists. As a result, Arlington County officials release criminal alien offenders back into their community to reoffend, rather than allowing ICE officers to arrest them while they’re in local law enforcement custody.
