Tillsonburg council has taken a step towards addressing doctor shortages within the region.
Councillors have requested staff file a feasibility report on a municipally supported physician recruitment and retention strategy.

The motion, tabled by Councillor Kelly Spencer at council’s Oct. 27 meeting, calls for staff to examine the viability of implementing a Colwood, BC initiative where the municipality directly employs family physicians and operates a clinic that is designed to be a positive revenue generator, and cost-neutral to taxpayers.
According to the Ontario College of Family Physicians, 60 per cent of Tillsonburg residents don’t have a family doctor.
