Detroit voters face a historic choice Tuesday between electing the city's first female mayor or an active minister to lead the city, as Mayor Mike Duggan leaves office to run for governor.
But voters across Metro Detroit face significant choices. Several cities, including Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Pontiac, Southfield and Sterling Heights are voting on mayor. City council elections also are being held in multiple cities, including Detroit.
And there are several major bonds issues on the ballot, including one a $425 million proposal to update facilities in Novi Community Schools. Troy voters will vote on a proposed 1.13 mill increase to pay for a $137 million bond proposal to build a new library, improve parks and recreation facilities, and rehabilitate roads among other things.
