Elegant in defeat, gracious in victory.
South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt and India’s Jemimah Rodrigues embodied the true spirit of the game with a heartfelt exchange after the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final.
India etched their name in history with a dominant 52-run win over South Africa at a packed DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on November 2, lifting their maiden Women’s World Cup trophy.
Despite the heartbreak, South Africa skipper Wolvaardt stood tall with a magnificent century, her valiant 101 keeping the Proteas in the hunt before they were eventually bowled out for 246.
After the match, she took to Instagram with a gracious message: “Not meant to be for us last night. Thank you for a memorable six weeks, India. Still so proud."
