OXFORD, Iowa (KCRG) —
Voters in Oxford, Iowa, will see something unusual when they head to the polls on Tuesday: a completely blank ballot, KCRG reports .
The Johnson County Auditor’s Office says no one filed to run for any of the city’s open positions, including mayor and several city council seats. That means every position could be decided entirely by write-in votes.
“Nobody chose to file, so it wasn’t anybody showed up late and we had to reject them — it’s just nobody chose to run this year,” said Johnson County Auditor Julie Persons.
Persons says the current officeholders decided not to seek another term, leaving various positions open. In the absence of filed candidates, she’s hoping Oxford residents talk to one another about potential write-in options before Election Day.
