Cheney, widely regarded as one of the most powerful and controversial vice presidents in US history, died Monday night (November 3), due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, according to a statement released by his family. ‌

The Nebraska native served as vice president under George W Bush from 2001 to 2009, and was a key figure for the 2003 invasion of Iraq following the attack on The World Trade Center on September 11 2001. ‌
