President Donald Trump has faced scrutiny on social media after admitting that he didn’t know who he recently pardoned.
Trump pardoned Changpeng Zhao, the creator of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, last month, after he pleaded guilty in 2023 to violating U.S. money-laundering rules.
Zhao, the founder of Binance, served four months in prison after failing to prevent the movement of money connected to terrorists, cybercriminals and child abusers through its platform, according to then-Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. Known as “CZ” in the crypto world, Zhao has also been a vocal backer of World Liberty Financial, one of the Trump family’s crypto businesses launched last year.
