WESTPORT, CT (WFSB) - A driver rescued an injured barred owl from the Merritt Parkway on Monday.
Westport Animal Shelter Advocates reported that the commuter picked up the owl in Westport and transported it to Wildlife in Crisis in Weston.
An animal control officer from Westport said that the owl appeared to be concussed, but suffered no bodily injuries.
Wildlife in Crisis posted to social media that the owl has been resting comfortably ever since.
“In the wee hours of the morning he was hit by a car suffering significant head trauma,” the organization said. “Injured and disoriented, he was unable to fly, lying on a busy highway as the morning rush of traffic whizzed by.”
The organization said its phone began ringing with callers reporting the injured owl on the roadway.
