NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - In an effort to relieve some pressure from food banks across the state, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced on Tuesday that $5 million in state funding will be allocated to nonprofits serving Tennesseans in need.

Lee said the grants will be given based on SNAP populations in each region.

More than 120,000 families in Middle Tennessee rely on SNAP benefits to fill their pantries and refrigerators.

As the government shutdown continues, I'm grateful to non-profit partners serving Tennesseans in their time of need.
