Voters take to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots in a wide variety of state, city, council, schools and park board races across Minnesota.

The main focus in the Twin Cities is on the mayoral elections in Minneapolis and St. Paul, where Mayors Jacob Frey and Melvin Carter respectively are facing challenges as they seek their third terms in office.

With both cities, and a handful of Twin Cities suburbs, using ranked-choice voting for municipal elections, there's the potential that some races won't be called until Wednesday or even Thursday depending on how close the vote is.

There are also two special elections to be aware of in the Minnesota Senate, with votes being taken in Districts 29 and 47 set to determine the balance of the Senate for the next year.
