The Election Commission of India has launched the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across nine states and three Union Territories. The exercise aims to cover nearly 51 crore electors and ensure an updated and accurate voter list ahead of upcoming elections.
According to an order issued on October 27, under Article 324 of the Constitution and the relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, the Commission directed the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision in the states of Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, and in the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
