A 46-year-old charged with military desertion 24 years ago was taken into custody Saturday when he was flagged while trying to board a ship at the JaxPort Cruise Terminal, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the arrest report, Customs and Border Protection stopped the man when he was trying to board because he had an active arrest warrant against him.
CBP then alerted an off-duty JSO officer who was working as security at JaxPort.
The officer interviewed the man in a CBP holding cell, confirmed his identity and then found the record of the active warrant for military desertion from the United States Army, the report said.
It was issued on May 9, 2001, by the USA Provost Marshal at Fort Campbell.
