A former HOPE Village resident is suing the charity that operated the tiny house shelter and the city of Longview on claims she had tenant rights violated when she was asked to leave without written notice or a court order.

Julie Dement, a 56-year-old woman who lived at the tiny house shelter until HOPE Village’s closure on Sept. 27, filed suit in October in Cowlitz County Superior Court against the Salvation Army and the city.

Dement seeks a judge to rule on her claims that the charity and the city engaged in forcible entry and forcible detainer — arguing that she was unlawfully ordered to vacate her unit by 4 p.m. Sept. 27 with only a single day’s notice.

The Salvation Army has yet to file a response in the case, but court records show legal counsel has been assigned to the case.
