Canada Post has issued a Remembrance Day stamp honouring Sikh soldiers, including Pte. Buckam Singh, who fought for Canada in the First World War and is buried in Kitchener.

The stamp was unveiled Sunday during the annual Sikh Remembrance Day Ceremony held at Singh’s grave in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Singh’s resting place is the only known military grave in Canada of a Sikh soldier from the world wars.

Honouring the long history of Sikh soldiers who have served with the Canadian military, the stamp features an illustration of a soldier in profile, with Singh’s grave in the background.

The stamp includes the caption “Private Singh” — a release notes that most of the Sikh soldiers had the surname Singh, which translates to “Lion” in Punjabi.
