A 25-year-old father in Ohio will spend more than two decades behind bars for killing his infant son, shaking and squeezing the 4-month-old to death earlier this year.

Wood County Common Pleas Judge Mary "Molly" L. Mack on Monday ordered Joseph D. Bonito to serve 25 to 31 1/2 years in a state correctional facility for the slaying of young Carson J. Bonito, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show. Bonito, who had initially been charged with murder, reached a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of felonious assault. Mack sentenced him to 11 to 16 1/2 years on the manslaughter charge and seven years each on the assault charges, to be served consecutively, meaning one after the other.
