When most people think of “outdoor recreation,” their minds immediately jump to hiking, camping, or kayaking. But as Dr. Shirley A. Jackson, volunteer leader for Outdoor Afro Oregon and west regional leader for the national organization, explained on the Peak Northwest podcast , the organization is breaking down barriers by embracing a much broader — and sometimes wonderfully unconventional — definition of what it means to enjoy the outdoors.
