HARLAN CO., Ky. (WYMT) - The Historic Harlan Museum opened its doors after nearly five years of development, offering visitors a comprehensive look at Harlan County’s more than 200-year history.
The museum sits in downtown Harlan and aims to expand knowledge beyond the region’s coal mining heritage.
“We’re excited to offer up just all the history that kind of makes Harlan County what Harlan County is,” said Brandon Pennington, executive director of Harlan Tourism.
One of the main exhibits features a 200-year timeline of Harlan County, including displays about Silas Harlan and the American Frontier, Pennington said.
The museum also includes a folklore exhibit featuring local myths and legends, including displays about headless Annie, Sasquatch and Bigfoot.
