WILMINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - A Wilmington couple plans to buy a home for their family after winning $1 million from a $10 scratch-off ticket.

Krystal Hastings and James Patana bought the Lucky Loteria ticket on Saturday at the Harris Teeter on Parker Farm Road, Wilmington.

“This is an opportunity for our family… It’s going to help everyone tremendously,” Patana said. “We are finally going to get a house.”

The pair had to choose between receiving an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. They chose the latter and split their prize in half. Each took home $215,251.

“It didn’t really feel real until we got here,” Hastings said. “This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”

Two Lucky Loteria $1 million prizes remain unclaimed.
