Vice President Dick Cheney gives a noon address at The Pfister Hotel on Sept. 25, 2006, as part of a fundraiser for Republican candidates.

Tributes have poured in from American political figures after Dick Cheney, one of the most powerful and controversial vice presidents in U.S. history, died Nov. 3 at the age of 84.

Former presidents and vice presidents, both Republicans and Democrats, have released tribute messages for Cheney. Notably, neither former President Barack Obama nor President Donald Trump had commented on Cheney's passing by 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4. Former Vice Presidents Dan Quayle and Al Gore, and current Vice President JD Vance also had not commented on the passing.

Cheney, the former vice president under President George W. Bush, was a key figure in America's response to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, helping lead the push to invade Iraq based on intelligence ‒ later proven wrong ‒ that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.

Here is who has reacted so far to Cheney’s passing.

Bill Clinton

George W. Bush

Mike Pence

Joe Biden

Kamala Harris
