MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Families across our area are relying on food banks and pantries after the food assistance program known as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) was recently halted as a result of the government shutdown. Now, local organizations are stepping up in this time of need.

That includes Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, who just launched their "Food for the Holidays" campaign.

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, about 50 volunteers -- including local comedian Charlie Berens -- helped pack items such as baby food, bakery goods, and snacks for families who need it most.

Feeding America hosts the campaign every year, but this year especially, the nonprofit says these resources are more important than ever.
