PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is headed to Washington D.C. to participate in oral arguments for a lawsuit being reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court involving tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.
The litigation filed by Arizona, Oregon and several other states earlier this year argues that only Congress has the ability to impose tariffs on goods. The case specifically challenged four of the president's executive orders that claim the power to increase tariffs.
"We need to slay this dragon called 'tariffs' quickly," the state attorney general told reporters on Tuesday.
Mayes, a Democrat, said this will be her first time attending a U.S. Supreme Court hearing as an attorney.
