AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - As the government shutdown reaches a record 35th day, the impacts are being felt locally in the CSRA, with food donations being needed more than ever.

Many small businesses are stepping up to the challenge, starting small donation projects that are making a big difference for those in need.

Kelly O’Neal, an ex-military small business owner and franchise owner of Rally Point Grille, has seen up close how the shutdown affects local federal workers.

“They’re not sure when they’re going to see a paycheck again,” O’Neal said. “I’m sure they’re under some stress about where they spend their money. And a lot of that means that they’re not going out to eat as often. Of course, we feel that’s unfortunate because we’re not seeing them.”
