FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines announced Tuesday it is laying off a small number of its staff, a move it says will optimize its performance and improve efficiency.
The Fort Worth-based airline said most of the affected positions are at its headquarters.
"We remain focused on continuing to invest in areas that support American’s long-term business objectives, and these targeted investments will be made thoughtfully to position our airline for continued success," a statement from American Airlines reads.
It's not known at this time exactly how many employees have been laid off.
The move comes after a third-quarter earnings report , where the airline reported a net loss of $114 million. This is in spite of also reporting a record third-quarter revenue of $13.7 billion.
