Haunting new photos show the last known images of a missing California girl who hasn’t been seen for a year – and she was spotted just last month with her mother , who appeared to have disguised her with a wig.

Melodee Buzzard, 9, was spotted on Oct. 7 in security footage from a Santa Barbara car rental outlet with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, and both appeared to have wigs on their heads.

The images were released Monday by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, which said the pair then embarked on a road trip from California to Nebraska.
