A 44-year-old man accused of shooting a man found dead in the garage of a Mandarin home was arrested Tuesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at a home on Rustic Green Court, near Losco Road.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Stephen Shahly, was found dead inside the garage, police said.

“He was a good man, but even a better father,” Shahly’s brother-in-law told News4JAX. “He showed me how I could be a cornerstone if I need to, how many young men could be a cornerstone. That’s mainly the thing I want to say about him. He was a great person, but even a better father. He cared about his community.”
