ROCKFORD, Ill. — The next Rockford Fire Chief has stepped into her new role.
On Tuesday, Rebecca Tyo was sworn in as the next Chief of the Rockford Fire Department. The ceremony took place at Veterans Memorial Hall in downtown Rockford at 3 p.m.
Tyo was announced as the next Fire Chief on Oct. 14. She is a Rockford native and started her career with Rockford Fire in 2009.
Tyo has served in multiple roles with the department, including Firefighter, Paramedic, Lieutenant, Fire Training Coordinator, and Captain. Her experience is said to have given her a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs of the Rockford community.
Throughout her time at RFD, Chief Tyo is said to have promoted initiatives focusing on health, safety, and wellness of department personnel. She also advocated
