LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Several agencies are responding to a plane crash involving a UPS cargo plane near Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport.
UPS Flight 2976 crashed around 5:15 p.m. local time after taking off from the Louisville airport, the FAA said. The plane was headed to Honolulu. Three crew members were on board, according to UPS.
Louisville Metro Police said injuries were reported and the area was an active scene with fire and debris. A shelter-in-place order was put into place for areas within five miles of the airport and all the way north to the Ohio River. A large plume of smoke could be seen on traffic cameras south of the airport just before 5:30 p.m.
