JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - Jackson leaders are considering new safety rules for parades, including new restrictions on guns and other dangerous items. A proposed ordinance would update the regulations to target both general safety and specific downtown concerns.
"I think it's important, because I think we had some deaths at the last St. Patrick's Day parade. People are concerned about if they come to a parade, and we'll make sure they're safe," said Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3.
The rules would ban heavy weapons and guns at parades citywide. Councilmembers said downtown events would also have extra regulations tailored to that area.
