The polls are open for the final day of voting in California's Proposition 50 special election .
A "yes" to Prop 50 would temporarily change the boundaries of several congressional districts for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections, but in particular, five districts where Republicans are currently in power. That would give California Democrats the opportunity to win five more seats in the U.S. House.
The proposal by Gov. Gavin Newsom comes after Texas made a similar move to gain more Republican seats in Congress at the behest of President Donald Trump.
How the Golden State votes will likely impact which party retains control of Congress in 2026 and how Californians are represented in the nation's capital.
Polls close at 8 p.m. in California.
