Franklin Whitley, the Greenville senior defensive end who had never played high school football until this season, has committed to Florida State .

His commitment was first reported Nov. 4 by Rivals.

Whitley (6-foot-7, 265 pounds) led Greenville’s basketball team to the Class AAAAA Division 2 state championship last season. He said he was urged by college football recruiters who saw him on the Red Raiders ' campus to try football, and he went to a summer camp at Georgia.
