PHOENIX (AZFamily) — President Trump is now threatening to withhold SNAP food assistance until the federal government shutdown ends, despite a court order requiring the administration to use contingency funds to temporarily cover benefits.
The uncertainty has left Arizona families scrambling. Nearly one million residents are at risk of losing access to vital food assistance programs, and community organizers say it shouldn’t take lawsuits or court orders to make sure families have enough to eat.
At an event called “Food on Every Table” held at Lutheran Social Services in Mesa, volunteers packed boxes of food. In contrast, advocates called on political leaders to end the shutdown and fully restore SNAP benefits.
