A UPS plane crashed at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky, causing an explosion, giant plumes of smoke and fire spreading nearly a mile.

The plane crashed around 5:15 p.m. as it departed, heading toward Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, the FAA said.

UPS said there were three crewmembers on board. Police in Louisville said injuries have been reported.

Because of the long trip, it was fully fueled, leading to the large fire. It spread easily to nearby facilities.
