MADISON (WKOW) -- On Tuesday, Wisconsin's top education official spoke publicly for the first time since The Cap Times published a report about the Department of Public Instruction's (DPI) handling of potential misconduct by educators.
State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly testified before lawmakers about the issues unveiled in that article.
"Our process is strong and our commitment to transparency is unwavering, but that doesn't mean we're standing still," Underly said. "We're always looking for ways to better improve our processes and make our systems stronger."
The Cap Times investigation found DPI investigated hundreds of cases involving sexual misconduct and grooming. Many cases did not result in license revocations, and some educators were able to surrender licenses, avoiding full
