BOSTON (WWLP) - After former deputy director of the governor's western Massachusetts office, LaMar Cook, was charged with cocaine trafficking, candidate for governor Mike Kennealy is calling for an independent investigation of hiring practices.

Calling on his decades of experience in business and public service, Kennealy told 22News that the governor should want to know how Cook's record and criminal activities in the workplace fell through the cracks.

"If I were her, I'd be calling for that investigation. A, because the public deserves answers, and B, because I would want to fix something that is broken," said Kennealy. "If you viewed yourself as accountable to the people to provide answers, you would do that."
