CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The City of Cedar Rapids will donate up to 25,000 to the HACAP food bank amid the government shutdown.

Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell announced that she and the City Council issued an emergency proclamation to donate up to $25,000 to HACAP’s food bank, that helps individuals and families across eastern Iowa.

O’Donnell said the council will officially vote on the funding November 18.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, O’Donnell said the city must care for local residents as the shutdown continues.
