HOUSTON — The special election for Houston City Council At-Large position 4 appears to be heading to a runoff.
Dwight Boykins and Alejandra Salinas were leading the pack late Tuesday night in a crowded race that had 14 listed candidates and one write-in candidate. Jordan Thomas was third.
The seat is currently held by Letitia Plummer, who is stepping down to run for Harris County Judge . This term ends in January 2028.
If no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff election on Dec. 13 with the top two candidates.
Usually, city council members are elected every four years. Council members are term-limited and can only serve two terms of four years. The next regularly-scheduled city council election is in November 2027.
