The Kansas Legislature won't have a special session this month to redistrict the congressional maps.

Despite a push by Republican legislative leadership to reconvene in Topeka with the express intent to gerrymander the maps to target U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, D-Kansas, there wasn't enough support among GOP lawmakers to formally call a special session.

"Planning a Special Session is always going to be an uphill battle with multiple agendas, scheduling conflicts, and many other unseen factors at play," House Speaker Dan Hawkins, R-Wichita, said in a statement.
