LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
A UPS plane exploded on the runway during takeoff at the Louisville Airport, leaving at least seven people dead and 11 others injured.
The crash , which happened around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, caused a massive fire, with giant plumes of smoke spanning nearly a mile around the airport. Advertisement
Beshear confirmed the death toll had risen to seven late Tuesday night, saying the number of fatalities is expected to rise as investigators remain at the scene.
Two buildings were also seriously impacted by the crash, which were Kentucky Petroleum Recycling and Grade A Auto Parts.
Two employees are believed to be missing at this time, according to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. That does not include customers who may have been inside the buildings at the time of the crash.
