Just days after Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a public emergency giving authority to the chief of police to declare juvenile curfew zones similar to the authority the chief had over the summer, the D.C. Council voted Tuesday to extend that authority for another three months.

Bowser declared a public emergency after a crowd of juveniles engaged in what authorities called disorderly behavior Friday night in Navy Yard.

Bowser and Chief Pamela Smith have been vocal for weeks urging the council to extend the chiefs authority to declare curfew zones for juveniles

The council voted Tuesday to once again give the chief that authority on a temporary three-month basis
